Parking Citations

Since the University of Minnesota Police cover areas in Minneapolis and St. Paul, you must first determine whether the citation was issued in Hennepin County or Ramsey County. This information will be listed on your ticket. Once you have determined this, below you can find out how and where to pay your fine or dispute the charges.

Hennepin County Citation Instructions:

You may elect to plead "Guilty as charged" and pay the fine. Payment of a fine is deemed to be a Plea of Guilty. A payment box is located in the Government Center (Street Level-NW Lobby) 300 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis and at various suburban court locations.

If you cannot determine the fine or if the offense is not listed on the citation, go to the Violations Bureau Web site or call them at 612-348-2040.

Ramsey County Citation Instructions:

If you wish to plead guilty, and submit payment for the parking offense charge(s) on the reverse side of the citation, you must do so with in 21 days of the day of violation. It is your responsibility to mail your payment in a timely manner to ensure it is received and processed within 21 days. Please allow 5 days for processing. A $5.00 fee is added to all late payments.

A limited fine schedule is listed on the back of the citation envelope. For additional information, or to pay your fine by credit card, wait 10 business days and then call 651-266-9202. Have your citation number and credit card available.

To plead not guilty or to plead guilty and offer an explanation, wait until after the 10th business day and appear at the Violations Bureau between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

you must contact the violations bureau if:

1) You plead "Not Guilty" and want to disput the citation;
2) You plead "Guilty" and wish to offer an explanation;
3) You are charged with any of the following violations:
  a) Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  b) Reckless driving;
  c) Leave accident scene/Hit & Run;
  d) Endanger life/property;
  e) No Insurance
