What is the Community Investigator Division?
The Community Investigator Division (or CID) is responsible for investigating crimes that occur on property owned, leased, or operated by the University of Minnesota. CID personnel are assigned geographical areas of responsibility. They also function as the community-oriented police officers for their areas. This combination ensures that the officers take an active roll in preventing and reducing the crimes that are happening in their area. The CID officers have a strong working relationship with faculty, staff, and students in their areas so that there are open lines of communication when it comes to addressing crime and safety issues.
CID officers also function as the crime prevention officers for their areas. They are available to put on crime prevention and personal safety presentations for students, staff, and faculty. We encourage the use of this service so members of the university community can help play a role in keeping the university safe. CID officers are also available serve as representatives for groups who meet to discuss safety and security concerns at the university. In addition, CID is responsible for coordinating events related to visits from high profile individuals and groups that require extra police protection.
