The University of Minnesota Police Department partners with members of the community to maintain a safe and secure campus. We recognize those citizens who assist in preventing, stopping, and solving crime with special awards throughout the year. We also recognize outstanding performance by the officers and staff of the the UMPD.

UMPD Citizens Awards

On August 26, 2009 University Police Chief Greg Hestness presented a Citizen Award to Greg Pillsbury for his actions on June 18th, 2009 by calling 911 after he had observed two suspects tampering with the bicycle racs near the Education Science Building. The information he provided lead to both suspects being arrested then fortunately the victims were able to recover their stole bicycles within 24 hours. This incident is a reminder that when the community works together with the UMPD it benefits all.
