Sexual AssAult - Pioneer Hall

On Sunday, April 27 at approximately 1:00 a.m. a University of Minnesota female student was sexually assaulted in Pioneer Hall.

The victim was confronted in a stairwell past the 3rd floor men's restroom. The first suspect grabbed the victim and pulled her into the restroom. A second suspect held her down while the first suspect assaulted her. Both suspects fled and victim returned to a friend's room where she had been visiting.

The victim describes the suspects as follows:

Suspect number one
Light skinned black male, 20 to 24 years old, approximately 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet one inch tall with a muscular build. He had a one inch dark brown afro and dark brown eyes and was wearing a white t-shirt, light colored jeans and black tennis shoes.

Suspect number two
Light skinned black male, 18 to 22 years old, approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a muscular build. He had a one inch dark brown afro and light brown eyes and was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Racial descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on an individual. In cases of serious crime such as this we may include them only as part of the totality of circumstances, if it may reasonably assist in the identification of the perpetrators.

We know that crimes of this nature can be unsettling and want to ensure that you are aware that the University has counseling and other resources available to you. More information can be found at http://www.mentalhealth.umn.edu.

Please remember the following:
* Call 911 immediately if you are the victim or witness to a crime, or if you see suspicious activity or people.
* Always be aware of your surroundings.
* Walk in well lit areas and don't walk alone. If you can't find someone to walk with, call the Campus Escort service at 612-624-WALK for a free security escort.
* Document information about the suspect for police (i.e. clothing descriptions, facial features, piercings or tattoos, speech, etc.)
* Carry minimal amounts of valuables
* Keep written records of valuables, including model and serial numbers, in a safe place
* When threatened with a weapon, it's best not to resist. Your personal safety is more important than a lost wallet or cell phone.
