ROBBERY - Near University Recreation Center

On Sunday, April 6th at approximately 2:50 a.m. a University of Minnesota student was the victim of an armed robbery near the University Recreation Center, located at 1906 University Avenue SE. The victim was walking back to his residence hall and was waiting to cross University Avenue SE. at or near 19th Avenue SE when a red four-door vehicle with a lowered suspension, possibly a Pontiac Bonneville, drove up to him and stopped.
The victim stated two males exited the vehicle and both immediately displayed handguns. One of the suspects struck the victim in the back of the head with a handgun and the other demanded his cell phone. The victim gave up his cell phone and both of the suspects re-entered the vehicle and left. The victim did not get the license plate number of the vehicle.
The suspect is described as follows:
* A Hispanic male, 18 to 25 years old, approximately five feet eight inches tall with a medium build. The suspect has black hair and a goatee, and was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.
* A Hispanic male, 18 to 25 years old, approximately five feet six inches to five feet eight inches tall with a medium build. The suspect has black hair and was wearing a dark colored t-shirt and shorts.
In addition to the above suspects, there were also two additional males and a female in the vehicle. All were described as being Hispanic.

Racial descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on an individual. In cases of serious crime such as this we may include them only as part of the totality of circumstances, if it may reasonably assist in the identification of the perpetrators.

* When threatened with a weapon, it's best not to resist. Your personal safety is more important than a lost wallet or cell phone.
* Always be aware of your surroundings

* Carry minimal amounts of valuables
* Keep written records of valuables, including model and serial numbers, in a safe place
* Call 911 immediately if you are the victim or witness to a crime
* Document information about the suspect for police (i.e. clothing descriptions, facial features, piercings or tattoos, speech, etc.)
