PostED: October 11, 2007

On October 10th, 2007, at approximately 11:45 pm, two University of Minnesota students were robbed at gunpoint outside of University Village (2601 University Ave SE Minneapolis, MN). Neither victim was harmed during the robbery, but one gun shot was fired at the victims as the suspects fled the scene. The suspects were last observed getting into a light colored, possibly silver or gold, sedan. The victims lost wallets, cash and cell phones.

The victims described the suspects as follows:

Suspect #1: East African or Somali male, thin build, wearing a dark blue or black sweat shirt, dark jeans and a Minnesota Twins baseball cap.

Suspect #2: East African or Somali male, medium build, small beard, wearing a dark sweat shirt, dark jeans and a blue baseball cap.

Racial descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or cast suspicion on an individual. In cases of serious crime such as this we may include them only as part of the totality of circumstances, such as the specific makeup of this group of robbers, if it may reasonably assist in the identification of the perpetrators.

If you have any information about this case, please contact the University Police at 612-624-COPS (2677) or call the anonymous tip line at 612-626-TIPS (8477). Reference University of Minnesota Police case number 07-338112.

Please remember the following:
* When threatened with a weapon, it's best not to resist. Your
personal safety is more important than a lost wallet or cell
phone.
* Always be aware of your surroundings
* Walk in well lit areas and don't walk alone. If you can't find
someone to walk with, call the Campus Escort service at
612-624-WALK for a free security escort.
* Carry minimal amounts of valuables
* Keep written records of valuables, including model and serial
numbers, in a safe place
* Call 911 immediately if you are the victim or witness to a crime
* Document information about the suspect for police (i.e. clothing description, facial features, pierces or tattoos, speech, etc)
