Research Area and Interests:

Dr. Wolff's work is directed at both basic science and clinical research studies. With respect to basic science his interests involve the bacterial etiology of the periodontal diseases and also new diagnostic techniques to identify bacteria in plaque. From a clinical perspective, Dr. Wolff is currently pursuing studies surrounding antimicrobial therapy for treating periodontal disease. In addition, he is investigating the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents in arresting the progression of periodontitis. Other areas of current clinical interest include smoking effects on periodontal disease and as a risk factor for progressive periodontitis, subgingival temperature as a diagnostic aid, sonic toothbrushes in reducing plaque and gingival inflammation around implants and radiographic methods to detect progressive periodontitis.
