Q: Can I call the Office for Student Conduct and Academic Integrity (OSCAI) if someone is harassing me?
A: Yes. Call us right away if you believe you are being harassed. We can discuss actions you can take and provide you with resources to assist you. If your situation is serious or life-threatening, call the University of Minnesota Police Department (612-624-3550) or 911. Call the EOAA Office (612-624-9547) to report bias or discrimination harassment. You can also use the EOAA reporting form.
If the incident involves assault, damage to University property, or other potentially criminal conduct, contact the University of Minnesota Police Department directly (non-emergency: 612-624-COPS [2677]; or for emergency call: 911).
Q: Can the OSCAI help me with a grade concern?
A: The OSCAI does not get involved in academic performance issues. All students are encouraged to talk directly with their course instructor about grade concerns. If satisfaction cannot be reached, talk to someone in the college through which the course is offered. You might also consider calling the Student Conflict Resolution Center at 612-624-7272. The Student Academic Grievance Policy is found at the University Senate website.
Q: If I've heard that the OSCAI has been sent information about me, can I call to find out what's going on?
A: All students will either be notified by mail or e-mail of any charges brought against them, and options for resolution. Students can call to ask any questions regarding a situation, however, due to privacy concerns, an appointment with the student may be requested.
Q: Can I contact OSCAI fill out forms pertaining to disciplinary background checks for attending other colleges or programs?
A: Yes. Call us at 612-624-6073 and arrangements can be made to drop the form off or mail it to us. Make sure you check with your college office as well. Many times college offices are also asked to review a student's collegiate record.
Q: Can OSCAI help me with legal questions? E.g., what can I do about off-campus housing problems? D.W.I. arrests?
A: No. Most likely you are paying student services fees and therefore are entitled to use the University Student Legal Service for help with legal problems unrelated to the University.
Q: I have tried to register for classes/request a transcript but I've been told that I have a hold on my record from OSCAI. What can I do to have the hold removed?
A: A student may have a hold on his/her record from our office for several reasons. Most frequently a hold on a record is placed because either the student did not meet with us when requested or because a student did not complete a required sanction by the deadline. Please call our office if you have a specific question about your record.
Q: I have received a letter from OSCAI requesting that I meet with someone in your office. Do I need a lawyer with me?
A: No. We will try to resolve the issue informally. Please take a look at the document on our website: Information Regarding the Discipline Process. This document will explain our process. If you would like to bring someone with you, you can contact the Student Conflict Resolution Center and have an ombudsman or an advocate assist you through our process.
Q: I have a meeting scheduled with someone from OSCAI. Can I bring my parents with me?
A: You can opt to bring parents with you for support, however, you will need to sign a release form before we can discuss your case with anyone. If you do choose to bring someone with you please understand that they will be serving in a supportive role. As the student involved, we will want to have the conversation with you directly.
