Q: If I am being harassed by a student can I call the Office for Student Conduct and Academic Integrity?
A: Yes. Call us right away if you believe you are being harassed. We can discuss constructive actions you can take. You can also call the EOAA Office (612-624-9547) to report bias or discrimination harassment. The online reporting form is found on the EOAA website. If the incident involves assault, damage to University property, or other potentially criminal conduct, contact the University of Minnesota Police Department directly (non-emergency: 612-624-COPS [2677]; or for emergency call: 911).

Q: What should I do if I suspect a student is responsible for scholastic dishonesty?
See entire document for a detailed description of what you can do. The short version is:

  1. Talk to the student and find out from the student’s perspective what happened.  Tell him/her what you suspect or think, even if the student disagrees with your assessment.  Ask for details about his/her perceptions.
  2. If you think the student engaged in scholastic dishonesty, assign an appropriate sanction (your syllabus may dictate what you do in this case) and tell the student what you are going to do. Also tell the student you will be sending a report to our office.
  3. Fill in thescholastic dishonesty report form (pdf) and send it to our office via e-mail or to Rm 211 ApH, 3505 (211 Appleby Hall, 128 Pleasant St. SE, Mpls. MN 55455).
  4. Call us if you have any questions.  612-624-6073.

Q: If I am experiencing classroom disruption, can I call OSCAI?
A: Yes.  If you have concerns about an individual's behavior in class, you are encouraged to contact the student's college or dean's office and OSCAI. Many times there are established collegiate guidelines regarding what to do in situations such as this. OSCAI can help identify other good resources for instructors. If the matter reaches a point where safety concerns become apparent, instructors can always call UMPD.

Q: If a college is considering writing guidelines for a conduct code or related formal documents or procedures, can OSCAI be contacted?
A: Yes. OSCAI often serves as a consultant on many types of issues regarding student conduct.
