Terminology

Guideline - A guideline is a level that is highly recommended. A guideline deals with a specific subject and is highly recommended, but not yet required by University Policy. These are usually referenced in the appendix or related information section of a policy.

Policy - A policy is a level that requires conformity. See University Policy Library.  See Information Technologies for information technology related policies.

Recommendation - A recommendation is equivalent to a guideline. See guideline.

Standard - A standard is a level that requires conformity. A standard deals with a specific subject and is a required part of University Policy.  Standards are usually referenced in the appendix or related information section of a policy.
