STANDARD
A standard is a level of quality that requires conformity.
The Chief Information Officer is designated by the "University Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy" as the institutional officer responsible to identify standards for access and acceptable use of information technology resources. This standard addresses the responsibility of units to have appropriately supervised professional technical staffing sufficient to maintain information security. It applies to all electronic devices connected to the University network including computers, personal digital assistant devices, laptop computers, etc.
The secure operation of much of the computing infrastructure in the University is the responsibility of information technology support staff located in departments and colleges throughout the University. The University depends upon the effectiveness of this staff to protect its technology resources.
Units are responsible to have appropriately supervised professional technical support staffing sufficient to maintain information security. The staffing level should be appropriate to the environment considering the amount and type of information for which they are responsible as well as the level of risk.
Computers, including desktop/laptop computers, and other electronic devices storing or accessing non-public data require a higher level of security and support. Staff and faculty have a responsibility to identify such data to unit administrative and technical support staff. Departmental and collegiate administrators have responsibility to provide oversight and assure the security of the private/non-public data stored or accessed by staff.
