For U of M Faculty and Staff Attending Conferences/Meetings in Other States
If you are attending a conference or meeting outside of Minnesota, Career/Life Alliance Services, the University's child care resource and referral service, can provide you with short-term child care information for your conference locale.
Visit the CLAS Web site, select the Child Care menu option at the top of the page, select the Child Care Search, and then choose the specific state of your conference (if prompted, the login is "university" and password is "minnesota").
For Visiting Faculty or Staff Coming to the Twin Cities
If you are coming to the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses) for an interview, meeting, to look for housing, or to attend a conference and need temporary child care services, the following child care options are available:
Nanny Services
The following agencies are available to provide temporary and drop-in child care to conference attendees or other visitors to the U of M – Twin Cities campus. Individual or group care and site location may be negotiated with the provider. In general, child care costs run between $12 and $15 per hour. Some area hotels also provide rooms that may be used for cooperative child care. Check with hotels regarding their facilities, licensing expectations, and preferred providers.
Child Care Centers
The following child care centers, located near the U of M – Twin Cities campus, and in the vicinity of either downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul, offer daily, Monday through Friday, drop-in child care. Normal business hours are usually 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rates vary depending on the age of the child and the length of the stay.

Resource & Referral Services (for visiting faculty and staff members from other colleges or universities)
Faculty and staff members from other colleges or universities who are planning to attend a conference sponsored by the University of Minnesota are welcome to use the child care resources available through the U of M Work/Life Program. The Work/Life Program offers access to Career/Life Alliance Services (CLAS), a national online child care resource and referral network. Career/Life Alliance Services can be reached 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays by calling 952-894-0727 or 800-736-6416, or visit the CLAS Web site (if prompted, the login is "university" and password is "minnesota").
University of Minnesota Child Care Center
The University Child Care Center may occasionally be able to accommodate requests for child care for those who are attending a conference on the U of M – Twin Cities campus. Arrangements must be made well in advance of the event. For more information, visit the Child Care Center Web site. |
