Numbers count. Body measurements matter. The numbers that indicate if your blood pressure is high or tell you what you weigh are an important part of your overall health equation. Your numbers figure into your chances for developing illnesses, such as heart disease or diabetes.

Walk-in UPlan Preventive Health Screenings

As a UPlan member, you are invited to attend walk-in UPlan Health Screenings administered by Boynton Health Service on the Twin Cities campus. Sponsored by the UPlan Wellness Program, the screenings are available on the second Wednesday of every month and are being offered to you and your UPlan-covered spouse or same-sex domestic partner at no additional charge. The screenings are held in Boynton's Roen Room from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

The specific tests offered include:

  • Fasting cholesterol (Total, HDL, LDL) and fasting blood glucose testing
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) and body composition or percentage of body fat
  • Blood pressure check

You should be prepared to spend at least one-half hour if you want to undergo all of the available tests.

When you take the UPlan Wellness Assessment preventive health screenings can provide biometric measurements which enrich your assessment results and provide you with a more complete picture of your health status. The deadline to complete the wellness assessment (unless you are a newly-hired employee) for the 2008 calendar year was April 30.

To complete the UPlan Wellness Assessment you will need to know your height and weight. If you Know Your Numbers and can provide the following test results as well, your assessment feedback will be more thorough and beneficial to you.

  • Blood pressure
  • Fasting cholesterol – total, “good” (HDL), and “bad” (LDL)
  • Fasting blood glucose
  • Body fat
  • BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • Weight

Download the “Know Your Numbers” form (pdf), which you can print and bring to preventive health screenings or your health care provider(s) to record your numbers.

If any of your current numbers are outside of the recommended range of values, you should discuss your numbers with your physician or healthcare provider.

UPlan members who are unable to attend the monthly walk-in preventive health screenings administered by Boynton Health Service may contact the UPlan Wellness Program to explore other screening options also available at no additional charge.
