As consumers, we know how to shop for the best price. But do we know how to buy health care coverage to lower our medical bills? Or can we compare the quality of one hospital to another? Do we know how to find out which provider delivers the most value for the best price?

With the wide array of choices we have for health care services, HealthCare Choices can help you get the most out of the health care dollars you spend.

Online Learning for UPlan Members

UPlan members (who have not previously done so) are invited to use the Web-based HealthCare Choices tool to boost their health care shopping know-how. By completing the three-part interactive program, you will gain:

  • understanding of your UPlan health care choices and options
  • communications skills to effectively deal with health care providers
  • access to quality comparisons between different health care provider groups and clinics

The three interactive online modules of HealthCare Choices provide you with an overview of the preventive health and medical benefits provided to employees through the UPlan Medical Program. The program also offers advice from the University's Center for Spirituality and Healing on how to navigate the health care system. And HealthCare Choices connects with a top-notch source, the MN Community Measurement Web site, to give consumers a way to find out who delivers the best results to overcome illness and injury and to restore health.

HealthCare Choices and Your $65 Wellness Reward

UPlan members, including UPlan-covered spouses and same-sex domestic partners, who complete HealthCare Choices can earn a $65 wellness reward. This is provided the UPlan member has: 1) not already completed this educational program in 2008, or 2) earned a $65 wellness reward for this calendar year by completing another program such as HealthPartners 10,000 Steps® or held the required number of sessions with a health coach. 

Starting HealthCare Choices

To begin HealthCare Choices, you will need to log into the program with your seven (7) digit employee identification number followed by your date of birth, using this format:

  • #######mmddyyyy

Spouses and same-sex domestic partners should log-in using the University employee's ID number and his/her own date of birth.
