Get Money Back for Regular Exercise

Participate in an eight-week strength or cardiovascular training class and get the entire cost of the class returned to you.

Group Strength Express (GSX) and Heart Rate Express (HRX) classes are open to all U of M faculty/staff but only those employees who are the UPlan members are eligible for reimbursement. Employees that are covered by their spouse's medical plan, even if they are a University of Minnesota employee, are not eligible for reimbursement. Dependents are also not eligible for reimbursement, even if they are a University of Minnesota employee.

Note: Although you are welcome to participate as much as you'd like, you can earn a maximum of 50 wellness points per program year by participating in a University-sponsored wellness course.

If eligible for reimbursement, attend 13 of the 16 classes and complete the pre- and post-class fitness assessment to receive full reimbursement. One lifetime reimbursement per GSX & HRX group allowed (2 maximum).

You do not need to be a member of the University fitness centers (Minneapolis Rec Center or St. Paul Gym) to participate in these classes. You will need to present a U Card to enter the facility.

General Information

Exercise classes are 8-weeks in length and meet twice per week (16 total sessions). The full-length of the program is 10-weeks, which includes pre- and post-fitness assessments, then an additional 6-8 weeks for reimbursement processing.

Classes are 45-minutes in length and are led by Certified Personal Trainers who provide modifications and variable intensity options depending on the participant’s physical ability. Group sizes are typically 5-8 people.

You do not need to have a membership to the Recreation & Wellness Center or St. Paul Gym in order to participate. A temporary and time-specific pass will be provided.

**However, appropriate University ID must be shown each time to gain access to the respective facility.**

Earn Wellness Points

When you successfully complete a Group Strength Express or Heart Rate Express course, you will earn 50 wellness points for your participation in the program. Please allow 6-8 weeks for those points to reflect in your StayWell Online profile after completion of the course.

Note:
You may earn a maximum of 50 wellness points for the 2014-2015 program year for participating in a University-sponsored wellness course. You may earn an additional 50 points by participating in a self-directed wellness activity of your own.

Costs

First-time participation in any of the three program options is $199. If you have already participated in one program and would like to re-take that same program, the non-reimbursable cost is $75. Pre- and post-fitness assessments are not included in repeat programs.

After completing the pre-and post-assessments and attending at least 13 of the 16 weekly classes, your $199 reimbursement will be electronically deposited into your checking/savings account within six weeks of course completion.
