An appointment letter for a Graduate Assistant position must include each of the following provisions:
- University job title and corresponding job code;
- Working job title, if different from the University job title;
- Student ID;
- Specific University of Minnesota college/campus/administrative unit and, if applicable, department/division for this position;
- Kind of appointment (e.g., regular annual, conditional annual, single-semester, or flexible hourly);
- Percent time of appointment (e.g., 25% - 10 hours/week, 50% - 20 hours/week);
- Appointment type;
- Appointment term (the length of appointment);
- Actual beginning and, if known, end dates of the appointment;
- Hours of work;
- Chief governing document for the position, Graduate Assistant Employment Policy;
- Salary;
- Reference to tuition benefits;
- Reference to Graduate Assistant Health Insurance Plan, http://www.bhs.umn.edu/insurance/twincities/ga/index.htm;
- General position responsibilities and performance expectations;
- If appropriate, whether the job offer is contingent on something;
- Indicate that employee must continue to comply with any and all licensing, certification, work eligibility, and other requirements of the position, as set forth in the position description.
- Signature of authorized hiring authority; and
- Signature of the employee accepting the term and conditions of the position as described in the letter.
