An appointment letter for a special contract pursuant to Section 3.6 of the Board of Regents policy: Faculty Tenure must include each of the following provisions:

  1. Restate University job title and corresponding job code;
  2. Restate working job title, if different from the University job title;
  3. Restate Employee ID;
  4. Restate specific University of Minnesota college/campus and department/division for this position;
  5. Restate whether the appointment is tenured or tenure-track;
  6. Appointment type and percent time of appointment at the expiration of the special contract;
  7. Length of probationary period in view of special contract terms;
  8. Percent time of appointment;
  9. Appointment type;
  10. Appointment term (length of appointment);
  11. Actual beginning and ending dates of the special contract terms and conditions;
  12. Reference existence of electronic Notice of Appointment accessible at http://hrss.umn.edu; notice should be consistent with the terms of this appointment letter;
  13. Chief governing document for the position (the Board of Regents policy: Faculty Tenure, (http://www1.umn.edu/regents/policies/humanresources/FacultyTenure.pdf) specifically referencing Section 3.6 Special Contracts;
  14. Salary;
  15. Reference to Summary of Benefits (http://www.umn.edu/ohr/benefits/summary.html);
  16. General position responsibilities and performance expectations;
  17. Indicate that employee must continue to comply with any and all licensing, certification, work eligibility, and other requirements of the position, as described in the position description.
  18. Signature of authorized hiring authority (if this individual is not the Dean of the college, then the Dean also must sign);
  19. Signature of the appropriate Senior Academic Administrator (i.e., the Senior Vice President, Academic Health Center or the Senior Vice President and Provost or their designees);
  20. Signature of the employee accepting the term and conditions of the position as described in the letter.
