Communications was one of the first job families studied in the Office of Human Resources' University-wide job reclassification project. It was completed in 2012 under a different model than most of the following job families. The job family includes communications professionals in the Civil Service and Professional & Administrative employee groups. The structure was created by the Communications Job Family Project Team, which was composed of employees in the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations, as well as college or unit communications directors from across the University.
