MIT announced on December 19, 2011 the launch of an online learning initiative internally called “MITx.” MITx will offer a portfolio of MIT courses through an online interactive learning platform that allows students to learn at their own pace while interacting with others.
MITx will benefit on-campus students immediately, while eventually MIT hopes the platform will play host to a virtual community of learners around the world.
