Preparing Future Faculty Courses

Program Requirements

Preparing Future Faculty offers two core graduate-level courses. To receive a letter of recognition and certificate of program participation from the Graduate School, participants must complete GRAD 8101 and GRAD 8102. Students may also register for "topics" courses offered under the GRAD 8200 designation to gain a GRAD 8101 equivalent one credit at a time.

Preparing Future Faculty Courses

GRAD 8101: Teaching in Higher Education

GRAD 8102: Practicum for Future Faculty

GRAD 8200: Teaching and Learning Topics in Higher Education

Non-Degree Students

Students who have already completed their degree or are not currently enrolled in a U of M degree granting program have two enrollment options:

  1. Enroll for graduate credit. This option is often preferred by students attending other Higher Ed. institutions and intending to transfer the credits for this program. Enrolling for graduate credit means the student will pay graduate credit tuition for all courses taken during this term. Before registering, the student must obtain a signed Registration Request for Graduate Credit (for Non-Degree Students) form (pdf) from CTL.
  2. Enroll for undergraduate credit. This option is an economical way to complete the program. Before registering, the student must obtain a signed letter of authorization to register from CTL.

Before visiting our office to obtain your Request for Graduate credit or authorization letter, please submit your name, Social Security Number, course you want to register for (Grad 8101 or Grad 8102), and your credit option (graduate or undergraduate) to Preparing Future Faculty at pff@tc.umn.edu.

The above requirements are in addition to the procedures described at the One Stop Non-Degree Registration site.

Non-Native English Speakers

All potential GRAD 8102 participants whose first language is not English must either (1) pass the SPEAK Test at the level of 55 points or better or (2) enroll in courses for international faculty and teaching assistants through the Center for Teaching and Learning (either GRAD 5102 or GRAD 5105) and obtain an ELP rating of "1."
