The Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellowship Program

Submit a Proposal

CTL will fund up to six Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellowships for University of Minnesota-Twin Cities instructors 2008-09 academic year (see eligibility criteria below). Proposals should address aspects of multicultural teaching and learning in UM courses, programs or departments.

The Center for Teaching and Learning annually funds Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellowships for instructional staff members (tenured and tenure-track faculty, professional & administrative educational staff, and adjunct/lecturer instructors). The Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellowships aim to support a wide range of multicultural teaching and learning projects—from those in incubation stages (thinking, researching, talking, reflecting) to those with ideas, materials, and analyses nearly ready to be shared with a range of academic and community groups.

Fellowship proposals received to date have addressed multicultural education issues, as well as links between related theories and classroom strategies at the course, program or department level. A screening committee will select up to six projects based on qualifications set out in the RFP. Each funded proposal receives a $2,500 grant, and all instructors associated with selected proposals are recognized as CTL Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellows.

The group meets six times during the academic year in workshop sessions with each other; topics have included development of grant and course-related diversity goals; assessment of student learning related to diversity content; development of discussions in a multicultural context and about multicultural materials; and next steps for the projects. During each workshop, participants use some portion of time to share questions, resources, ideas and findings. Each Fellow makes one public presentation related to his/her project—with information about the presentations to be made available across the campus.

For the 2008-09 academic year, the Center for Teaching and Learning will fund up to six Multicultural Teaching and Learning Fellowships for University of Minnesota-Twin Cities instructors (tenured and tenure-track faculty, professional & administrative educational staff, and full-time lecturers). The proposals should address aspects of multicultural teaching and learning in UM courses, programs or departments.
