What's Inside

Customized Teaching and Learning Workshops

Customized teaching and learning workshops are provided to departments, schools, and colleges across the Twin Cities campuses. Deans, department or program administrators, TA supervisors, professional development coordinators, and groups of faculty or TAs or adjunct teaching staff can submit requests for workshops. The workshop will be designed with your audience, your specific purpose, your specific schedule and your goals in mind. A CTL educational specialist will work with you to create and/or facilitate a customized workshop of 50 minutes to 2 hours and more in length.

Educational research tells us that we learn most effectively when new information is presented within the framework of existing knowledge. Similarly, customized teaching and learning workshops allow groups of university teachers with common scholarly or disciplinary concerns to gather together in workshops focused on enriching pedagogical practices. Customized workshops can help in generating a network of people who can continue support each other as teachers and scholars.

Consultations

Teaching consultants are available to individual faculty members and TAs who wish to discuss specific teaching concerns and effectiveness as they relate to a particular class. Teaching consultants with the Center for Teaching and Learning are staff members with specific training in instructional methods and consultation procedures. The consultant focuses on responding to consultees' teaching and learning concerns. Classroom consultations are strictly confidential, non-evaluative and free of charge.

Student Feedback Through Consensus

Student Feedback through Consensus (SFC) is a technique that uses guided discussion and consensus to generate clear, prioritized, and confidential student feedback on classroom instruction or curriculum. When you request an SFC, a consultant from the Center for Teaching and Learning guides your students through a consensus-generating process.
