My academic interests include intercultural conflict resolution, affective factors in learning English as a second language, and first-generation college students. At the Center I work primarily in the Initiatives for Nonnative Speakers of English program. I teach courses, conduct classroom observations and hold individual consultations for International Faculty and Teaching Assistants at the University. I also participate in the summer IT TALK orientation program for new international Institute of Technology graduate students. I have given presentations in ITA training at the International TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and POD (Professional and Organizational Development) Conferences. I've lived abroad in Costa Rica and Italy, and I speak Spanish and Italian.
Currently I am the volunteer coordinator of a program at CTL called "Partners in English." This program matches native English-speaking conversation partners with international graduate students enrolled in our classes. I also coordinate undergraduate students involved in service learning classes on campus. They volunteer 30 hours a semester working with our international graduate students.
Additionally, I am the Office of Human Resources representative for the University's Council of Academic Professionals and Administrators. I serve on the Benefits and Compensation Subcommittee. I also serve on the University's Classroom Advisory Subcommittee in the University Senate.
My previous teaching experience includes serving as an ESL instructor for Post Secondary Teaching and Learning's Commanding English Program, ESL Liaison at the College of St. Catherine (Minneapolis campus), and English Instructor for the Comune di Milano, Milan, Italy.
