Plans are being formed for the 2014 cohort of the President's Excellence in Leadership program. Please email Dave Dorman (dorma001@umn.edu), the program coordinator, to receive information about the 2014 cohort when it is available.

The President’s Excellence in Leadership (PEL) program, formerly the President’s Emerging Leaders program, recently launched a new cohort focusing on operational excellence. Participants will engage in an eight-month program, consisting of seminars and action learning that emphasizes change management facilitation, leadership, and Lean strategies to improve efficiency. Participants will commit 20 percent of their work time to program activities from April through December.

Upon completion of the President’s Excellence in Leadership program, participants will demonstrate improvement in the following six leadership competencies:

  • Managing change
  • Advancing efficiency
  • Balancing quality, risk, and speed
  • Fostering collaboration
  • Engaging others
  • Acting with integrity

Criteria for selecting participants in the program are:

  • Capacity to stretch beyond current skills or role
  • Cross-functional capability
  • Demonstrated collaboration ability
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Participation in previous change initiative
  • Aptitude for coaching others and facilitation
  • Likely to benefit from an intense development experience
