New Employee Orientation

To help you get better acquainted with the University and your colleagues, we invite you to register for New Employee Orientation as soon as possible after your first day of work. On this page you will find general information about the first session, one of several sessions in which you will participate over the course of your first year.

Remember that New Employee Orientation is mandatory for all new employees (both faculty and staff). The time that you spend both in travel and attendance is considered work time and eligible for pay, so check with your supervisor to ensure you can attend your first session soon.

This first session is held at the McNamara Alumni Center at the eastern edge of the Minneapolis campus. You can check the Campus Connector bus schedule at Parking & Transportation Services for free bus service between the St. Paul, East Bank, and West Bank campuses. The bus stops right in front of McNamara.

For this first session, there will be a breakout session by employee group. In order to be sure you get the right information, you will need to know your employee group (i.e., Civil Service, Bargaining Unit/Union, Professional & Administrative, or Faculty). If you don't already know, ask your supervisor for this information.

We look forward to seeing you at New Employee Orientation. If you have any questions, just let us know. You can reach us at newemployee@umn.edu or at 612-626-3490.
