Your first contact for assistance with any human resources issue is your college or administrative unit's HR professional. The HR Professionals know Human Resources policies and procedures particular to
your unit.
If your unit's HR Professional advises you to contact an HR Consultant, please contact the HR Consultant assigned to your unit, as indicated below.
Role of the HR Specialist
As an additional resource, the Office of Human Resources offers assistance to employees, HR personnel,and managers on topics such as leaves, sick and vacation usage, academic appointments, non-renewals and layoffs. E-mail the HR Specialist for help with interpretation and decision-making for these issues.
Role of the HR Consultant
Human resources consultants assist HR personnel, as well as managers and employees, with employment
issues across each University campus. Their work includes:
- Interpreting and applying employment-related policies, rules, and contracts.
- Assisting with performance management issues, ranging from hiring, rewards,
and recognition, to discipline and termination.
- Resolving conflicts and managing difficult workplace situations, including
facilitating union grievances.
- Providing customized training about employment subjects.
- Leading units through organizational development
Consultants in the Academic Health Center Human Resources Office are available to assist HR personnel, managers, and employees in the AHC colleges, centers, and units.
