Fitness Programs

University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports

Faculty, staff and University of Minnesota affiliates (i.e., Aramark employees, University of Minnesota Physicians employees) may purchase the following memberships:

  • Semester—$185: Semester membership corresponds with the University academic calendar.
  • Summer semester—$75
  • Six Months—$222: Does not correspond with the University academic calendar; expires six months from join date
  • Annual—$444: Does not correspond with the University academic calendar; expires 12 months from join date
  • Payroll Deduction:Enrollment fee—$43.11 | Deductions: $13.73 | Deductions are taken post-tax each pay period and will continue until member completes cancellation paperwork.

Fit Choices Program

The Fit Choices program encourages UPlan members who visit a participating fitness center eight times a month to receive up to a $20-a-month reimbursement of membership dues. Participating fitness centers include the University Rec Center in Minneapolis, St. Paul Gymnasium, RSOP Fitness Center in Duluth, Regional Fitness Center in Morris, and hundreds of other popular health clubs.

Wellness Programs

As a UPlan Medical Program member, you and your family are invited to participate in activities sponsored by the Wellness Program that are designed to promote health and prevent disease. There are many programs and activities in which you can participate, depending on your interests and wellness goals.

Work with a health coach or connect to online Healthy Living programs to lose weight or reduce stress. Your pathway to better health begins with an online wellness assessment.

UPlan Biometric Health Screenings

Walk-in UPlan Health Screenings administered by Boynton Health Service on the Twin Cities campus are available to all UPlan members.

Tests offered include:

  • Non-fasting cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL) and blood glucose testing
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) and body composition or percentage body fat
  • Blood pressure check

24/7 Nurse Line

OptumHealth℠ 24/7 NurseLine℠ services are available around-the-clock to answer questions from UPlan members. Call toll-free, night or day, to reach an experienced registered nurse to:

  • recognize symptoms and choose appropriate health care
  • learn to manage a medical condition and explore treatment options
  • identify potential medication side effects
  • make the most of your clinic visits
  • achieve a healthful lifestyle

This private and confidential service is available to you and your family members at no charge as one of the benefits offered through the Wellness Program.

The OptumHealth℠ 24/7 NurseLine℠ toll-free number is listed on the back of your medical plan ID card.

Farmers Market

The University of Minnesota Farmers Market is held on the Gateway Plaza just outside the McNamara Alumni Center, East Bank campus. The market is open Wednesdays, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July through October. Twin Cities-area vendors sell locally-grown produce, berries, and fresh flowers.

As a member of the University of Minnesota community, you have access to one of the highest quality University health services in the nation. Boynton Health Service takes pride in meeting the health care needs of students, staff and faculty with compassion and professionalism. Boynton has been providing medical care, heath education and public health services for the University for nearly 90 years. It's our mission to create a healthy community by working with students, staff and faculty to achieve physical, emotional, and social well-being. Students, staff, faculty and others in the community are eligible to use Boynton. University staff and faculty (and their dependents) may use Boynton if they are enrolled in a health plan in which Boynton participates, or they may visit on a fee-for-service basis.

Get your move on! Enjoy a stroll through campus while burning off some calories as you try to accumulate 10,000 steps or more every day.  Each Wellness Walk has been mapped, timed, and has had steps counted for your convenience.
