Changes to Coverage

If you chose coverage for yourself but not your dependents when you retired, you may still be able to add them later. The two exceptions to add dependent coverage are if your eligible spouse/registered same-sex domestic partner loses other coverage, or if you marry or enter into a same-sex domestic partnership after retirement.

A written request for a change in coverage due to one of these circumstances must be made to Employee Benefits within 30 days of the date of status change. Call Employee Benefits if you have more specific questions about changes in your coverage.

Changes to Plan Options

You can change plan options at odd-year annual open enrollment period. Your next opportunity to change options will be Open Enrollment of 2007. You can also change options if you are moving out of a plan's service area.

When to Apply

You have a special 60-day open enrollment period prior to retirement. You are encouraged to meet with a benefits counselor to discuss your options for continuing coverage. You can change your health plan option at this time; however, if you have individual coverage, you cannot add family coverage at this time.

Any eligible dependents including your spouse, same-sex domestic partner, and/or dependent children, who are covered at the time of your retirement, may also continue coverage.
