RxAmerica is the pharmacy benefits manager for all UPlan medical options with Medica or HealthPartners. You are automatically enrolled in the RxAmerica prescription drug program when you elect a medical plan. You will receive a separate member identification card for the RxAmerica pharmacy program.

Benefit Levels

RxAmerica covers a 30-day supply of prescription drugs (including insulin) through network pharmacies at the following levels:

  • $8 copayment for Generic Plus drugs (includes all available generic drugs and some preferred brand drugs if there is no generic drug in a given therapeutic class)
  • $20 copayment for Brand Formulary drugs (includes all other brand name drugs listed on the formulary)
  • $35 copayment for Non-Formulary drugs (includes all covered brand name drugs not listed on the formulary)

The annual out-of-pocket maximum is $750 per person and $1,500 per family.

However, if you have Medica Direct HRA or HSA, prescriptions are covered first under the account if funds are available. After the annual deductible is met, prescriptions are covered at the coinsurance level in your medical plan.

Drug Formulary

The drug formulary through RxAmerica will provide you with safe, effective, high-quality, cost-effective medications to ensure the best medical results while also reducing the overall costs for providing prescription benefits. RxAmerica has a strong emphasis on the use of generic drugs to help control the cost of prescription drugs. Generic versions of brand name drugs are clinically proven to be just as effective as their brand name counterparts at a fraction of the cost. The formulary, which lists the medications covered by the program, is available on the RxAmerica Web site.

Pharmacy Network

The RxAmerica pharmacy network includes popular pharmacy chains, HealthPartners pharmacies, independent pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, a home delivery mail service pharmacy, and a specialty drug pharmacy program.
