CVS Caremark acquired RxAmerica, the pharmacy benefits manager for all UPlan medical options with Medica or HealthPartners. The mail order medications are now processed through the CVS Caremark mail service program with enhancements to mail service due to this change. Customer service and all other services are still handled through RxAmerica. You can contact them at 866-918-7526.

To learn more about the transition from RxAmerica to CVS Caremark, see the questions and answers page.

Automatic Enrollment

Your enrollment in the CVS Caremark prescription drug program is automatic when you elect a medical plan. You will receive a separate member identification card from CVS Caremark, although the card will keep the RxAmerica name.

Benefit Levels

CVS Caremark (RxAmerica) covers a 30-day supply of prescription medications (including insulin) through network pharmacies at the following levels:

  • $8 copayment for Generic Plus medications (includes all available generic medications and some preferred brand medications if there is no generic medication in a given therapeutic class)
  • $20 copayment for Brand Formulary medications (includes all other brand name medications listed on the formulary)
  • $35 copayment for Non-Formulary medications (includes all covered brand name medications not listed on the formulary)

The annual out-of-pocket maximum is $750 per person and $1,500 per family.

For Medica HSA, prescriptions can be covered first under the account, and then the annual deductible applies until it is met. After that, the medical plan pays 90 percent of pharmacy expenses in the HSA.

Drug Formulary

The drug formulary through CVS Caremark provides you with safe, effective, high-quality, cost-effective medications to ensure the best medical results while also reducing the overall costs for providing prescription benefits. CVS Caremark has a strong emphasis on the use of generic medications to help control the cost of prescription drugs. Generic versions of brand name medications are clinically proven to be just as effective as their brand name counterparts at a fraction of the cost. The formulary, which lists the medications covered by the program, is available on the CVS Caremark (RxAmerica) Web site.

Pharmacy Network

The CVS Caremark (RxAmerica) pharmacy network includes popular pharmacy chains, HealthPartners pharmacies, independent pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, a home delivery mail service pharmacy, and a specialty drug pharmacy program.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM)

Medication Therapy Management is a patient care service offered to eligible UPlan members in which you have face-to-face meetings with a specially trained pharmacist who can help you improve the quality and effectiveness of your medication therapy program.
