As a UPlan Medical Program member, you have an added incentive to head to a health club by participating in UPlan Fitness Rewards, a program that provides up to a $20-a-month reimbursement in health club membership dues when you visit the facility at least eight times each month.
How Does the Fitness Rewards Program Work?
The UPlan Fitness Rewards program builds upon two existing fitness incentive programs that are available through the University's health plan providers — HealthPartners and Medica.
- HealthPartners Frequent Fitness. This program will reimburse you up to $20 a month when you visit a participating fitness center eight times a month. If you hold a family health club membership, a second family member, who is a UPlan member and age 18 or older, who also works out eight times a month may earn up to a $20 fitness reward too.
- Medica's Fit Choices. With this program, a credit up to $20 each can be earned for up to two individual fitness center memberships. However, with a dual or family membership, you can earn only one $20 credit. You will also need to visit a participating fitness center at least eight times a month to receive the $20 monthly membership fee reimbursement.
Visits to the health clubs or fitness centers are recorded by the participating facilities. Once your regular workouts are underway, you can expect to receive your fitness reward in approximately 60 days. Depending upon how your fitness center administers the payment, your reward will be reflected as a reduction in monthy dues or will be directly deposited into your checking or savings account.
Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible to participate in the UPlan Fitness Rewards program, you must:
- be enrolled in a Medica or HealthPartners medical plan
- be age 18 years or older
- join or belong to a participating health club or fitness center within the health plan's network
Register at a Participating Fitness Facility
Enrollment in the UPlan Fitness Rewards program takes place at the UPlan member's fitness facility. When registering for the program, remember to bring along your 2008 UPlan health plan ID card.
The network of participating fitness facilities features hundreds of major and independently owned recreational and fitness centers, so it is likely there is a participating health club located near where you live.
Also included are the University recreational and fitness centers located on the Twin Cities, Duluth, and Morris campuses.
The full list of participating fitness centers and health clubs can be found on the Web sites for HealthPartners and Medica.
If you have additional questions about this program, contact your fitness center. Your health plan's customer service representatives can also provide assistance.
