Employees with a 67% or greater, 12-month (A term) appointment, earn vacation, pro-rated accordingly. There is an initial requirement of six months' employment before vacation may be taken.
Vacation accrues for a total of eleven months at the rate of one day per half-month of service. Vacation is not accumulated beyond one year's total accrual of 22 days unless special permission is granted. Vacation days will expire if not used within one year of the month in which they were accrued.
When an academic employee assumes a new academic position in a different department and has unused vacation days, they may be taken before starting in the new department, or kept when the employee moves to the new department. Vacation days will expire if not used within one year of the month in which they were accrued. There is no waiting period if vacation is earned in the new position.
According to University practice, when Academic employees change to Civil Service or bargaining unit positions, with no break in service, their accrued vacation balance is transferred with the employee to the new department, However, this vacation balance must be used within one (1) year or it must be paid out to the employee.
Vacation is not accumulated beyond one year's total accrual of 22 days, and it may not be paid in lieu of being taken.
When an employee has worked 67% time or greater for eleven (11) months, any unused vacation days (up to the maximum of one (1) year's accumulation of 22 days), may be paid out when the employee ends their University employment.
