AFSCME Clerical or Technical

Eligibility and Accrual

Employees (including those on temporary appointments) who are employed in one department on a 50% time or greater appointment shall accumulate sick leave with pay at the rate of three minutes per straight time hour paid to a maximum of eighty hours per pay period.

Changing Jobs within the University

When an AFSCME employee changes to another AFSCME job, or Civil Service or Teamsters job with no break in service, unused sick leave moves with the employee to the new job. Unused sick leave is not transferable when an AFSCME employee changes to an academic job.

Leaving the University

For all job classes, unused sick leave is not paid out when an employee leaves the University.

Returning to the University

Unused sick leave shall be reinstated for returning employees who are:

  • hired from the layoff list, OR
  • former employees who are hired within three years of their termination, and were employed on a percentage appointment of at least 75% time (or 50% time if initial three-year criteria has been met)

AND

  • who are reemployed in a position of at least 50% time.
