Offline Operation

The online workstation (Ultra 10) is called "medicinal1" and the offline
station (Sun Blade) is called "medicinal2". The two machines are networked
and all files have read-access. You cannot/should not run the magnet from
the offline station.
Read and process from the online station
Copy data from the online to the offline
Deleting old data
Backing up data to a Zip disk

To read and process data while on the offline station *from* the online
station:
1. In the VNMR software, (mouse menu) [Main Menu] [File] [Set Directory]
[Change]
2. You will be prompted for the "New working directory?"
Enter: /net/medicinal1/data/username/vnmrsys/data
(Enter your username where it says "username" above). This changes the
current directory to your data directory on medicinal1 (online).
3. The data that appears in the middle window will be the files on the
online station. You can then load the data as you would on the online
station and use [Main Menu] [Autoprocess] [Autoplot]. (plots will go to
the same printer)
4. The Glide menu will not work on the offline station.
5. Manual plot options:
pl - plot spectrum
pscale - plot scale
ppf - plot peak frequencies on top of peak
pltext - plot the text
ppa - plot short version of parameters
pir - plot integrals
page - send plot to the printer
You can use any combination of these commands as long as you always end
with "page". For example:
>pl pscale pltext ppf page
>pl pscale pltext ppa pir page
>pl ppa pscale page
6. The macro "plothertz" is functional from the offline station.

To copy data from the online station to the offline station (while logged
into the offline station):
1. Place the mouse on the Solaris wallpaper and click the right mouse
button.  Select->Programs - > File Manager
A file manager window will open with any files from your home directory on
medicinal2.
2. Click in the directory window (where the name of the current location
is and can be re-typed). Change the directory location to:
>/net/medicinal1/data/username/vnmrsys/data
and hit return. The files in the window should then reflect the data files
in your data directory on the online (medicinal1).
3. Select the directory with your new data (highlight the folder icon).
4. From the menu choose> Selected - > Copy To
A new window will appear and the destination folder must be erased and
re-entered. In the destination folder enter: > ~/vnmrsys/data
Click Ok.
5. The file(s) will be copied to the offline station into your data
directory. Doing this will create two copies of the data (online and
offline) until it can be archived and erased.

To delete unwanted or old data from either workstation:
1. From the main VNMR software, menu bar, [Main Menu] [DATA]
2. Select the directory to be deleted (highlight).
3. From the menu bar, [Delete]
4. A new window will open asking if you wish to delete this file and click
on [Confirm].

A zip drive is located next to the offline station, medicinal2.
The zip drive will take 250 MB or 100 MB zip disks.
Archiving data to a Zip disk (please read #5!):
1. Log into the offline station and open a file manager window by clicking
the right mouse button on the Solaris wallpaper. Choose ->Programs -> File
Manager.
2. Change the file manager window to your data directory. So, change the
directory setting from /data/username to
/data/username/vnmrsys/data
The file manager window should reflect the data stored on the offline
station (medicinal2).
3. Load the zip disk. A second file manager-zip window will open for the
zip disk displaying the contents of the zip disk.
4. Files/directories from the first file manager window (medicinal2 - data
directory) can then be dragged and dropped into the zip file manager window
to copy the data to the zip disk.
5. IMPORTANT! When you are finished with the zip disk, *do not* eject the
disk manually. Go to the menu bar in the zip file manager window, select
File then Eject. The zip disk will eject itself and the zip file manager
window will disappear in a moment.
6. Remove old files from the online or offline station that are no longer
in use and have been archived (see deleting files).
