Wild-rice study might aid sulfate regulation
An unusually abundant wild-rice crop in the area's Mississippi River backwaters is helping determine levels of pollutants that mines in far northeastern Minnesota will be able to discharge into surface waters. University of Minnesota researchers took water, dirt and wild-rice samples from the Weaver Bottoms area south of Kellogg this summer as part of their statewide field work.
