(11/07/2005) — The University of Minnesota Board of Regents will hold its November meeting beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday at the McNamara Alumni Center in Minneapolis.The board will hold a work session to hear a presentation from Chuck Muscoplat, senior vice president and dean of the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences, about UMore Park, the universitys outreach, research and education park in Rosemount.
As one of the largest pieces of undeveloped land in a metropolitan area, UMore Park is a unique asset to the University of Minnesota, said President Robert Bruininks. But with growth in surrounding communities closing in on UMore, we need to develop a comprehensive, long-term plan that allows us to control the destiny and realize the potential of this property.
In other action, the board will review and act on a supplemental state budget request. The proposed request includes $6.3 million in one-time funds, $8.3 million in recurring funds for increases in fuel costs and $8.1 million in one-time funds to meet critical equipment needs at the School of Dentistry and College of Veterinary Medicine.
The schedule for the meeting is as follows:
9:30 - 11 a.m. Faculty, Staff and Student Affairs Committee, East Committee Room. The committee will act on the appointment of John Finnegan as dean of the School of Public Health. In addition, action will be taken on the collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 320. The committee will also receive its annual report on the diversity of faculty and staff.
1:30 - 2:45 p.m. Board of Regents work session, East Committee Room. Presentation on UMore Park and Financing Strategies for University Assets.
3 - 5 p.m. Board of Regents meeting, boardroom. Bruininks will include in his monthly report a discussion of the universitys efforts on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The board will also act on the 2006 state capital bonding request, a six-year capital plan and a 2006 supplemental state budget request.
