For the sixth consecutive year, the University will be celebrating Maroon and Gold Day at the Minnesota State Fair. There will be old favorites, such as the "Know your U" trivia game, and a host of new offerings, such as Goldy's Yellow Book Hotline, on that activity-filled Sunday, August 29.

Start your day inside the U of M building on Dan Patch Avenue and Underwood Street. In addition to collegiate exhibits, you'll find a new "Stadium Experience" exhibit--a stylized mini stadium full of memorabilia and sports highlights--and the "Only at the U" exhibit, which features in bold, beautiful color photos and at-a-glance factoids things that make the University unique. Also new this year is Goldy's Yellow Book Hotline, a unique-looking phone booth that will give you direct access to University Information Services--a fun and quick way to get your U-related questions answered. If you're a football fan, make sure you stop at the University's athletics booth for the special Golden Gophers Football Feast package--only offered during the State Fair. For $80, you'll get two tickets to the Gopher football opener on Saturday, September 4; two tickets to the game on Saturday, October 2; two T-shirts; and $25 in Famous Dave's gift certificates.

Once you're done checking out what's in the U of M building, head outside for live entertainment. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can test how much you know about the University in the "Know Your U" trivia contest on the University stage. Fabulous prizes will be up for grabs, including gift certificates for a barbecue meal at Famous Dave's. At 2 p.m., the Maroon and Gold Day Parade down Dan Patch Avenue will feature the U's 300-piece marching band and President Bob Bruininks riding horseback with the Canadian Royal Mounted Police. And at 3 p.m., turn your attention back to the U stage for music by the U's Legendary Barbecue Blues Band.

Discounted Minnesota State Fair admission tickets for $7 (regular price is $9) are available at University of Minnesota Bookstores located in Coffman Union and the St. Paul Student Center on the Twin Cities campus or online at www.bookstore.umn.edu. (There is a $1.50 shipping and handling fee for each online order).
