Bottled vs. tap water debate
August 20, 2009
Last year, Americans drank 8.6 billion gallons of bottled water - with many consumers believing bottled water to be healthier than ordinary tap water. A University of Minnesota expert who can break the debate down is:
Deb Swackhamer, co-director of the U of M Water Resources Center and Chair of Science, Technology and Public Policy at the Humphrey Institute
Swackhamer says that's a mistaken, expensive and environmentally damaging belief. With bottled water in the news and under fire — Congress heard testimony Wednesday on whether bottled water should be more tightly regulated — Swackhamer, a environmental chemist says there are pros and cons of bottled water vs. tap water.
