Using Dreamweaver to publish webpages to Netfiles

  1. Set up the site by clicking on the Site menu and choosing New Sites.
  2. Enter an appropriate name and URL for your site. If you are using the www folder for your webspace, the URL is http://netfiles.umn.edu/users/{InternetID}/www Click Next.
  3. Netfiles does not support server side technologies so choose ‘No, I do not want to use a server technology’ and click Next.
  4. Choose the option to ‘Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready (recommended) and enter the path on your local computer where your files will be stored. Click Next.
  5. For the option ‘How do you connect to your remote server?’ select WebDAV. The URL of your WebDAV server is ‘https://netfiles.umn.edu/users/{InternetID}/www’ where {InternetID} is your InternetID. In the ‘What is your WebDAV login?’ field, enter your Internet ID. Click Next.
  6. Netfiles does have the ability to check in and check out files, however, most users will not need this functionality so choose ‘No do not enable check in and check out.’ Click next.
  7. A window showing the summary of your site will show up. Click Done.

Uploading your site to Netfiles

Once you are done editing your site, you can upload your files by:
  1. Opening the Files pane, if it is not already opened.
  2. Select the entire site by clicking where it says: Site - {site name and path location}
  3. Click on the put files button.
  4. Enter your netfiles password.
  5. Dreamweaver will ask if you want to put the whole site up. Click Yes.
