When you access Moodle for the first time, you should set up your personal preferences.

Here you will be able to specify visibility of your email address to other Moodle users, change your preferences for forum subscriptions, upload a user picture, or share some personal details.

Important: Make sure to fill out ALL required information, including City, Country and Description, otherwise your changes will not be saved. If you do not want to type a Description about yourself, just put a simple pediod there.

profile

Access your profile settings:

  • Click on your own name in the upper right corner, once you are logged in to Moodle
  • Click the Edit Profile tab
  • Once done, make sure to click the Update profile button at the very bottom of the page

Hide/unhide your email from others:

  • Locate Email display in the Edit Profile area. Choose one:
    • Allow everyone to see my email
    • Allow only other course members to see my email - default
    • Hide my email from everyone (instructors will still see it)

Change preferences for forum subscriptions:

Users can subscribe to forums in Moodle, which means that they will receive copies of forum postings via email. You may control some of the preferences:

  • Email digest type, if subscribed to a forum:
    • No digest - you will receive a single email each time a new post is made to the forum(s) to which you are subscribed
    • Complete - you will receive one email per day right after 5 pm with full copies of all posts from all the forums to which you are subscribed - default
    • Subjects - you will receive one email per day right after 5 pm with subjects only (headers) of all posts from all the forums to which you are subscribed
  • Forum auto-subscribe:
    • No: do not automatically subscribe me to a forum when I post (recommended, since you may always decide later whether to subscribe to the forum or not from right inside the forum area) - default
    • Yes: when I post, subscribe me

Upload a picture/userpic:

  • Locate Picture of area
  • Click Browse button
  • Locate your picture on the computer and load it into Moodle
  • Click the Update Profile button
    • If you do not see the picture right away, make sure to clear your browser cache (how-to) and re-login to Moodle
