Important: Upgrade to version 1.9 on May 22, 2009

Dear instructors,
Please review the information below about the upcoming upgrade to 1.9 on May 22.

Schedule
The upgrade will happen on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 8 am. During this time, Moodle will not be available for user access, with an anticipated downtime of 6 to 8 hours.

Site relocation
Please be aware that some sites will be moved after the upgrade. You may review the full table with detailed explanations of site locations here: http://umn.edu/moodle/roadmap_19.html

http://moodle.umn.edu (1.9 production) will host sites:

  • Training and Collaboration
  • Future academic course sites (Summer 09, Fall 09, etc)
  • Multiple semesters
  • Development

https://archive.moodle.umn.edu/arch_spring09 (1.8 archive with student access allowed) will host:

  • Spring 09 course sites used for academic courses
  • Previous semesters with student access

Changes in tool behavior
Special attention should be paid right after the upgrade, if:

  • a) your site stayed on the 1.9 production instance, and if
  • b) you have used:
    • Gradebook
    • Scales (numeric-looking)
    • Journals or Workshops

If you have used any of the above features, you will need to adjust your sites after the upgrade.
Please, make sure to review this page for a full explanation of the steps that you might need to take.

Help
If you have any questions about how your site will be affected, please send its full URL to moodle@umn.edu

We can:

  • Review your current settings and tools used in 1.8, and give you tips on what will change after the upgrade there.
  • Give you access to the already upgraded copy of your site before the upgrade actually happens, thus you can be better prepared for any changes.
  • Help you to update your gradebook settings and/or calculations right after the upgrade (e.g., if you have used numeric-looking Scales, or if you are lost regarding the new calculation methods).
  • Make one-on-one appointments (subject to availability; TC campus only. Designers from other campuses, please check with your local support, but feel free to write us an email in any case).

Sincerely,
Your Moodle Support Team
