About

Quiz allows instructors to design and set quizzes consisting of a large variety of Question types, among them multiple choice, true-false, and short answer questions. These questions are kept in the course Question bank (location in Administration > Questions) and can be re-used within courses and between courses. Quizzes can allow multiple attempts. Each attempt is automatically marked, and the teacher can choose whether to give feedback and/or show the correct answers.

Teaching tips

1. Allow more time on a quiz for some students (make exception)

This  is a commonly requested feature, which does not yet exists, but developers are looking into this for ver. 2.0. There are 3 options  that can help to overcome this limitation:

1. Duplicate:

  • Duplicate the quiz, allow more time on it, and give the password for the second  quiz only to those who need more time
  • Use the Grade Exceptions interface in the gradebook, to decide what student is graded on what quiz

2. Use Roles to separate people:

  • Go the assign Roles interface for the whole site (Assign Roles in Administration). Override the Participant role, and set "Ignores time limit on quizzes"  capability to Allow.
  • Go to the Roles interface in the quiz. Assign the role of the Participant to those students who need more time (they will not be limited at all in this scenario)

3. Collaborate with students:

  • Ask students who need more time to take the quiz the next day, for example.
  • Extend the time for the quiz, change the password for it, and provide the password to the second set of students only
