About
Moodle has its own build-in Instant Messaging system, which is not limited to a specific course site. Logged in users (students, instructors, TAs) may send messages to each other, regardless whether they are enrolled in the same course or not.
By default, if people are online, they will receive a message right in Moodle, usually as a pop-up. If the participants are offline for 10 minutes, then they will also get a copy of the message via their regular email. Participants may modify their preferences via the Messenger settings.
Tip: If you want to have instant communication with a group of people only from your course, you can use a Chat tool instead.
