All forum posts have a 30-minute window to allow editing. Thus, usually it takes 30 minutes for the message to be "ready" for sending via email to those who are subscribed.
If you want to make it "ready" right away, please check the Mail now checkbox at the bottom of the new forum post.
Once the forum post is ready to be sent via email - it will go to the "mailing queue", which runs at the end of every hour.
Therefore, the "real" sending time will vary slightly:
- If you post at 10:45 and check Mail now, then the post will be mailed around 11
- If you do not check Mail now, then it will be mailed after 30 minutes, plus at the end of the hour - thus around 12.
However, it is up to the individual user to decide how often s/he wants to receive emails from the Moodle system via the Profile.
This is controlled by the settings in the Email digest type, if subscribed to a forum area. Users have 3 options to to choose from:
- No digest - single email each time a new post is made
- Complete - one email per day after 5 pm with full copies of all posts from all the forums
- Subjects - one email per day right after 5 pm with subjects of all posts
Instructor may recommend to the students to change the default setting there from Complete to No Digest, since that will help them to stay most up-to-date with the course progress.
