About
Choice tool is a simple question and answer activity which allows to ask one multiple-choice question. It can be used as a poll, or a simple information-gathering tool.
Instructor may limit the number of responses allowed, and modify who can see the results.
Add a choice
- Turn on editing mode by clicking on the Turn Editing On button on the course homepage
- Click the Add an Activity dropdown menu and select Choice
- Fill out the form:
- Enter the Choice Name
- Enter the Choice Text - question that you want your students to answer
- Choose whether to limit the responses or not:
- A limit allows only a certain number of answers to each option, so that option becomes unavailable when the limit is reached. Limit of zero (0) means that no-one can select that option. If limits are disabled then any number of participants can select any of the options.
- Fill out choices (options participants may choose from), and specify limits if you have enabled limiting
- If you wish to restrict answering to a time period, fill out the time restriction options
- Review and/or change the Miscellaneous Settings:
- Choose whether to display the choices horizontally or vertically
- Choose whether to publish results to students or not:
- never publish
- show after they have given the answer themselves
- show after the closing date of the choice
- always show
- Set up privacy of results, if they are shown:
- anonymous
- full results are show with participants' names
- Choose whether users can update their answers or not
- Choose whether to show a column to show how many users have not voted yet
- Review and/or change the Common module settings
- If you wish to use group mode, enable it here
- To show or hide the module from students, choose Hide
- Click on Save changes
Edit a choice
- Click on the Choice link on the course homepage
- Click on the Update this Choice button in the upper right hand corner
- Review/update the options as outlined above
- Click on Save changes
Delete/reset responses
- Click on the Choice link on the course homepage
- Click View # of Responses link
- Select students' responses that you want to remove
- Scroll down to locate With selected menu. Choose Delete
Download responses
- Click on the Choice link on the course homepage
- Click View # of Responses link
- Scroll down and click on the button with one of the download options: ODS, Excel, or text format.
