The Book module makes it easy for designers to create/organize resources into a book-like format with main chapters and one level of sub-chapters. Previously created websites can be imported directly into the Book module. Books can be printed entirely or by chapter.

Add a Book:

  • Go to the course homepage and click the Turn editing on button
  • Choose Book from the Add an activity dropdown menu
  • Modify settings:
    • Give your book a name and a summary
    • Indicate how you want chapters to be numbered
    • Enable or disable printing
    • Allow or disallow custom titles
  • Click Save changes button

Add a chapter/sub-chapter:

  • Provide a title for the Chapter
  • Mark the sub-chapter checkbox if necessary
  • Type or paste content
  • Click Save changes
    • To add more chapters - click red 'plus' icon
    • To edit existing page - click 'hammer' icon

Import existing content:

  • Click the red 'plus' icon to add a chapter
  • Scroll down and click Import link
  • Choose previously uploaded file or directory
  • Click Import button

Notes:

  • Books are not searchable
  • Books can have only 2-levels of navigation (chapters and sub-chapters)
  • Students cannot add to books; they are for instructors only
