Add co-instructors/designers (with editing rights)

Instructors can do anything within a course, including changing the activities and grading students.

  • Go to the course homepage
  • Click Assign roles link in the Administration block
  • Click the Instructor link
  • Click in the Search field under the column on the right
  • Type a name or an email. Click Search button:
    • If the user is found, the name will appear in the right column.
    • Once you've found a person, you can also check Hidden Assignment checkbox in the middle, if you wish to hide this user from your students.
    • IMPORTANT: If you cannot find people, it means that they need to activate their Moodle accounts first. You should send an email to those users, asking them to do so.
  • Highlight the name of the user in the right column by clicking on it.
  • Click the Add arrow in the middle pointing to the left. The user will be moved to the left column, and added to the site.

Add non-editing instructors (e.g. TAs)

Non-editing instructors can teach in courses and grade students, but they do not have designer capabilities, thus they may not alter activities or add resources (e.g. teaching assistants).

  • Go to the course homepage
  • Click Assign roles link in the Administration block
  • Click the Non-editing Instructor link

Useful tips:

  • Role changes only take effect after the next login from the user.
If you assign a role to a user, or override any of the roles capabilities, the user must log out from the Moodle system completely and then log back in, in order to see changes.
