Enrollment Key (one-time password) - keeps unwanted people out of your site

  • Autofetched or manually added students, if any, do not need to know the key, since they will be granted access automatically.
  • Removing the key will allow anyone with a University of Minnesota Moodle ID to self-enroll in your course site. This should not be done without informing students that the course site is open to all members of the university community.

Anonymous access - provides the possibility of people browsing through your site in the "read-only" mode without authentication (more about access types to Moodle).

  • If you invite read-only visitors into the site that has the enrollment key, you should inform students.
  • If you allow read-only access without an enrollment key, then anyone in the world will be able to access and browse your course site.  It also allows content inside your website, such as forums and wikis, to be indexed by search engines like Google and Yahoo.  This should not be done without informing students that the course site is open to the world.

For more information, visit our FERPA page.
