New features and fixed bugs in 1.8.3
New features:
1. Respondus add-on
Respondus software is now integrated with Moodle. Respondus can be used for offline quiz creation, importing of question banks, and quiz conversion from one course management platform to another.
2. Slight term changes:
E.g. read-only guest access is now called read-only anonymous browsing, to avoid confusion with the UofM Guest IDs.
3. Timed posts in the forums (experimental):
Instructors can now add display dates to their initial posts (topics) in the forums - choose whether the forum posting is displayed from a certain date, expires on a certain date, or is only displayed over a given period. E. g:
- Create a Standard Forum in your site.
- Go inside the forum and click 'Add a New Topic' button.
- At the bottom of that screen you will see new menu, titled 'Display Period', which will be disabled by default. If you wish, you can uncheck Disable checkboxes and set Start and/or End time.
4. New role called Participant.
This role is almost an exact replica of a Student role with two differences:
- Participants can access and participate in hidden sites (those that have Availability set to "This course in not available" in Settings)
- Participants can unenroll themselves from Moodle sites (leave sites) if they wish, by clocking Unenroll link in Administration block. Users with a Student role will not see that link.
When to use:
- The role can be used by the Instructors, in case that want to test their sites with a dummy student account, but do not want to open their sites to the real students yet.
- It can be assigned to the users who need to review hidden sites or participate in those, but who should not have instructor/designer access.
- In Moodle sites used for collaboration purposes. It is important for the users to be able to leave non-academic sites, therefore users should be added/self-enrolled into the sites in the role of Participants, thus they will be able to unenroll later.
5. Reset page
Settings for the Reset page had been changed, and most of the choices are now unchecked by default.
Bugs fixed:
- Missing build-in context-sensitive help files inside Moodle (yellow question marks)
- Disappearing submissions page, once assignment submissions are sorted by their 'Status’
- Disappearing gradebook for some users
- Improper percent calculations
- Missing wiki field for "Choose an Initial Page"
- Errors with large Excel downloads
- Added back missing disclaimer about email privacy on the User Profile
