This event was co-sponsored by the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics, and the Minnesota Obesity Center. April 6, 2001Northland Regional Chapter ACSM 2001 Spring Tutorial was held at the Radison Hotel Metrodome at the University of Minnesota. May 3, 2001Barry Popkin, Ph.D., Carolina Population Center, University of North Carolina, presented a seminar entitled "Dynamic Shifts in Stages of the Nutrition Transition in Developing Countries." This event was co-sponsored by the Department of Food Science & Nutrition. May 14, 2001: Center-Wide RetreatThe Minnesota Obesity Center held its third annual center-wide retreat. Presentations were made by Pilot & Feasibility Award recipients, Center Core Directors, and Center Participating Investigators. This event has increased in popularity over the years and was very well attended. The presentations are followed by a buffet luncheon, which allows people to interact and discuss ideas for potential collaborations and Core usage.
June 7, 2001Marion Nestle, PhD, Chair of the Public Health Nutrition Program at New York University, presented a seminar on "Halting the Obesity Epidemic: Public Health Approaches." This event was co-sponsored by the Division of Epidemiology. The seminar was held in conjunction with a symposium on "Soft Drinks in Schools: Exploring the Issues." September 11, 2001Nicolas Stettler, MD, Dept. of Pediatrics and Epidemiology, University of Pennsylvania, was to present a seminar entitled "Risk factors for obesity present early in life." This event was to be co-sponsored by the Department of Food Science & Nutrition. (This event was postponed.) September 25, 2001Nikhil Dhurandhar, PhD, Dept. of Nutrition and Food Science, Wayne State University, presented a seminar entitled "Obesity: An Infectious Disease?" This event was co-sponsored by the Department of Food Science & Nutrition.
