Keyboard drivers allow the user to specify which key on the keyboard will produce which character. There are two main arrangements for the Russian keyboard: the Russian "standard" keyboard and the Russian "homophonic" keyboard.

The Russian Standard keyboard is that in use in Russia itself and mainly follows the arrangement found on Russian typewriter keyboards. The Russian Homophonic keyboard arranges the Russian letters so as to coincide with their nearest English equivalents. The homohonic keyboard is usually much easier for people used to typing in English to become accustomed to.

If you wish to install the Russian Homophonic keyboard on your machine, use the following procedure:

(1) Determine which version of the MS Windows operating system is installed on your computer [to do this, right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties"; a window will appear which will tell you what system is running];

(2) Click on the link for your system:  Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me  OR  Windows NT, 2000, XP

(3) Follow the instructions provided on the "ReadMe" file in that folder.
